Pressure profile changes after cartilage biopsy at the postero-medial rim of the talar dome

چکیده
Introduction Autologous chondrocytes implantation is a promising technique to treat joint surface defects of the talar dome, especially when it is considered that a complete arthroscopic procedure is available yet [1]. However, the exact biopsy site as source of the cells to be expanded remains an issue of debate. Recently we showed that a limited biopsy can be harvested reliably and consistently at the postero-medial rim of the talar dome by arthroscopy [2]. Further research must establish if this location is indeed a "lesser weight bearing area". This study aims to determine the changes occurring in the pressure profile across the aforementioned site after a biopsy has been harvested.

Novel metallic implantation technique for osteochondral defects of the medial talar dome
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A metallic inlay implant (HemiCAP) with 15 offset sizes has been developed for the treatment of localized osteochondral defects of the medial talar dome. The aim of this study was to test the following hypotheses: (1) a matching offset size is available for each talus, (2) the prosthetic device can be reproducibly implanted slightly recessed in relation to the talar carti...
متن کاملOsteochondral lesions of the talus: localization and morphologic data from 424 patients using a novel anatomical grid scheme.
BACKGROUND The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the true incidence of osteochondral lesions on the talar dome by location and by morphologic characteristics on MRI. Because no universally accepted localization system for talar dome osteochondral lesions currently exists, we established a novel, nine-zone anatomical grid system on the talar dome for an accurate depiction of lesion locat...
متن کاملOperative Technique and Clinical Outcome in Endoscopic Core Decompression of Osteochondral Lesions of the Talus: A Pilot Study
BACKGROUND Revitalizing the necrotic subchondral bone and preserving the intact cartilage layer by retrograde drilling is the preferred option for treatment of undetached osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT). We assessed the effectiveness of Endoscopic Core Decompression (ECD) in treatment of OLT. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seven patients with an undetached OLT of the medial talar dome underwent ...
متن کاملOsteochondral Lesions of the Talar Dome.
Osteochondral lesions of the talar dome are relatively common causes of ankle pain and disability. Trauma is the most common cause, but ischemic necrosis, en-docrine disorders, and genetic factors may have etiologic significance. Medial lesions are usually located posteriorly on the dome of the talus, whereas lateral lesions are most frequently located anteriorly. Although the staging system de...
متن کاملTrabecular angle of the human talus is associated with the level of cartilage degeneration.
The architecture of bone trabeculae is based on the direction of stresses applied to the bone. The human talar dome receives compressive forces from the tibia and, to a much lesser extent, the fibula when standing, walking, and running, and transmits the force downward to the calcaneus through the talar body and anterior to the navicular via the talar head. As a result, the body of the talus ha...
